The Story of the Lost Wallet

🇦🇺 So remember, we had set up camp and were having a relaxing coffee….

Then I browsed my Facebook page and came across a message from the Lady of the Walkabout Creek Pub. SHE FOUND MY WALLET and it is now 198 km away from us. FUDGECAKE!!!!!! What to do?? First panicking on my behalf followed by an immediate search of car and van, followed by despair and then panic again because all our Credit Cards, Driver Licenses (both of ours) and Cash is in there. Breath in Breath out. I called the Lady via Skype because we have no phone connection, just a Teltra Data Card which worked, Lucky us. Apparently the wallet was handed in during the morning, which is the time we were there. We had our drinks outside on one of the wooden benches and I must have put the wallet on the table, drank, walked off and wallet lost. Funny thing is, I always pay everything with my phone which I always carry with me. I can not understand why I walked to the car and got my wallet to pay cash. I never do that and I can not explain it. Anyway, now the wallet was done in Walkabout Creek and we were 200 km north of it which meant a 400 km round trip to retrieve it. Lucky we had reception there otherwise it could have been days before I would have seen the message and we could have been in Cairns by then. WOW, some angel was watching over us. Probably my grandma, she always said I was a slacker with stuff like that. After a lot of thinking the decision was made that we would unhook and leave the van at the Rest Stop, me included because I did not want to leave the van by itself in the middle of nowhere. So the next morning Timm, my dear dear husband, took off (with both phones) and drove all the way down there and all the way back. Took him just on 4 hours and he was back just after lunch. The longest hours for me with no internet connection and no way of getting in touch with him. Everybody around us had left by 10 am and I was alone, with the van, in the middle of nowhere. I was not scared but it was an uneasy feeling. I cooked my husbands favourite meal (Bolognese) to soften the day and passed the time looking out the window for suspicious cars, walking around the van to make sure all was secure oh and did I mention looking out the window for suspicious cars.

Finally I heard some very loud music, which is unusual for my husband, but there he was, turning the corner, returning back to the van. Big Relieve all around. He had my wallet, all cards and cash still inside, full tank of Diesel and in a very good mood. I can not describe the relief that no harm was done other then a full tank of Diesel gone and a day wasted. But other then that ….. my faith in the good of people has been somewhat restored because good and honest people, who do the right thing by others are still out there and we were lucky enough to cross path with them. So a very very big thanks to all involved, especially the Lady (name known to us) at the Walkabout Creek Hotel who had the frame of mind to contact us via Facebook because there was no other way to get in touch. THANK YOU!!!

SCHEIBENKLEISTER !!!!!! Was tun??

DANKE!!!
