🇦🇺 12. Stop Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park 13th July 2022, well what a disappointment to us but let me start at the beginning. We left Port Hedland RV Stop early in the morning and knew we had a longer drive to our next sleep over. A fellow travelling couple told us to stop at Cape Keraudren just before we reached our daily destination. We decided to take the drive in to have a nice Lunch Break and WOW, what a treat. After paying a vehicle Entry Fee of $12 we drove in and were not disappointed. We should have stayed there. Beautiful 180 Degree views of the ocean, widely spread campsites, toilet facilities and we counted at least 4 Dump Points. There were chooks running around near the Homestead and all campers looked relaxed and chilled. Should have stayed here for a couple of days instead of Eighty Mile Beach CP.

🇩🇪 Stop Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park 13. Juli 2022, was für eine Enttäuschung für uns, aber lasst mich am Anfang beginnen. Wir verließen Port Hedland RV Stop früh am Morgen und wussten, dass wir eine längere Fahrt zu unserer nächsten Übernachtung vor uns hatten. Ein mitreisendes Paar sagte uns, wir sollten am Kap Keraudren anhalten, kurz bevor wir unser tägliches Ziel erreichten. Wir entschieden uns für eine schöne Mittagspause und WOW, was für ein Vergnügen. Nachdem wir eine Fahrzeugeintrittsgebühr von $12 bezahlt hatten, fuhren wir hinein und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Wir hätten dort bleiben sollen. Wunderschöner 180-Grad-Blick auf das Meer, weit verstreute Campingstellplätze, Toilettenanlagen und wir haben mindestens 4 Dump Points gezählt. In der Nähe des Homestead liefen Chooks (Hühner) herum und alle Camper sahen entspannt und ausgeruht aus. Hätten hier ein paar Tage bleiben sollen, anstatt im Eighty Mile Beach CP.

🇦🇺 Unfortunately we had booked 4 Nights at Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park following a recommendation how great it was. Oh Man, it was very very crowded (end of school holidays) and at times we had 7 neighbours and not necessarily nice ones. There was very poor internet connection (could live with that), the amenities were very old and run down and not very clean. A HUGE generator ran 24/7 very noisily towering over the caravan park. BUT, the beach is beautiful if you take all the people and cars out of the equation. They also had very yummy Ice Cream at the park and we met Julie and Dennis with their two kids who are also lapping Australia. So it was not all bad although we were very happy to leave after our 4 nights.

🇩🇪 Leider hatten wir aufgrund einer Empfehlung, wie toll es sein soll, 4 Nächte im Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park gebucht. Oh Mann, es war sehr sehr voll (Ende der Schulferien) und wir hatten zeitweise 7 Nachbarn und nicht unbedingt nette. Es gab eine sehr schlechte Internetverbindung (damit könnte man leben), die Sanitäranlagen waren sehr alt und heruntergekommen und nicht sehr sauber. Ein RIESIGER Generator lief rund um die Uhr sehr laut und überragte den Campingplatz vom Eingang aus. ABER, der Strand ist wunderschön, wenn man alle Menschen und Autos aus der Gleichung herausnimmt. Sie hatten auch sehr leckeres Eis im Park und wir trafen Julie und Dennis mit ihren zwei Kindern, die auch Australien umrunden. Es war also nicht alles schlecht, obwohl wir sehr froh waren, nach unseren 4 Nächten abzureisen zu dürfen.

🇦🇺 Sooo, then we headed of on the 17th of July looking forward to bypassing Broome (been there – done that), planning to head to Derby and beyond. Well….., after getting Diesel at the Sandfire Roadhouse we drove another 30 km north before we got a warning signal of what looked like the oil in the car running low. So we stopped and checked and sure enough, the level was at the bottom of the oil dip stick. What to do. We had to turn around because there was no other service station until Broome another 300+ km and 4+ hour drive. So we did, rocked up at the Roadhouse again, bonnet up, contemplating what to do because we needed a special oil which only Toyota sells. Truckie to the rescue ….. he started talking to us about the Cruiser and how he had ordered one, then quickly checked our oil and said to take a chance and drive to Broome, oil would last. Only because he said that, we headed of, closely monitoring him on the radio and sure enough made it to Broome late afternoon. Car and Oil held up and we were happy …. that was until we were unable to get into any caravan park nor overflows anywhere in Broome. Totally packed. However on the road towards Broome, just after the turnoff and passing Roebuck Roadhouse, I had seen a small sign but it was 30 km away from Broome. Well no choice, I called them at 4 pm and the decision was made to stay at (13th Stop) Broome Gateway Caravan Park and best decision ever. We ended up staying 4 nights on this old Mango farm with free range chooks, birds everywhere and not many campers around. What an idyllic setting and highly recommended!!

🇩🇪 Sooo, dann machten wir uns am 17. Juli auf den Weg und freuten uns darauf, Broome zu umgehen (waren bereits dort – fertig), und planten, nach Derby und darüber hinaus zu fahren. Tja….., nachdem wir beim Sandfire Roadhouse Diesel geholt hatten, fuhren wir noch 30 km nach Norden, bevor wir ein Warnsignal bekamen, dass das Öl im Auto zur Neige ging. Also hielten wir an und überprüften und tatsächlich, der Stand war am unteren Rand des Ölpeilstabs. Was tun?? Wir mussten umkehren, weil es bis Broome keine andere Tankstelle gab, weitere 300 km und mehr als 4 Stunden Fahrt. Also taten wir es, schaukelten wieder zum Roadhouse, Motorhaube auf und überlegten, was wir tun sollten, weil wir ein spezielles Öl brauchten, das nur Toyota verkauft. Truckie zur Rettung ….. er fing an, mit uns über den Cruiser zu sprechen und wie er einen bestellt hatte, überprüfte dann schnell unser Öl und sagte, wir sollten es wagen und nach Broome fahren, das Öl würde reichen. Nur weil er das gesagt hat, machten wir uns auf den Weg, überwachten ihn genau über Funk und schafften es tatsächlich am späten Nachmittag nach Broome. Auto und Öl hielten durch und wir waren glücklich … das war, bis wir weder einen Campingplatz noch Ausweichplatz in Broome finden konnten um zu übernachten. Total überfüllt. Auf der Straße nach Broome, kurz nach der Abzweigung und am Roebuck Roadhouse vorbei, hatte ich jedoch ein kleines Schild gesehen, aber es war 30 km von Broome entfernt. Nun, ich hatte keine andere Wahl, ich rief dort um 16 Uhr an und die Entscheidung wurde getroffen im (13. Stop) Broome Gateway Caravan Park zu bleiben, und das war die beste Entscheidung aller Zeiten. Am Ende verbrachten wir 4 Nächte auf dieser alten Mangofarm mit Freilandhühnern, Vögeln überall und nicht vielen Campern in der Nähe. Was für eine idyllische Umgebung und sehr zu empfehlen! !

🇦🇺 this gave us enough time to get the oil from Toyota the next day, prepare a Rock Tamer for the car to secure our rear window, Hitch extension and Scirocco Fan for the van, fit it all and still manage to do some sightseeing and relax.

🇩🇪 Das gab uns genug Zeit, um am nächsten Tag das Öl von Toyota zu holen, einen Rock Tamer für das Auto zu kaufen und vorzubereiten, um unsere Heckscheibe zu schützen, die Anhängerkupplung und den Scirocco-Lüfter für den Van zu besoren, alles einzubauen und es trotzdem zu schaffen, etwas Sightseeing zu machen und zu entspannen.

🇦🇺 14. Stop – Township of Derby and following a recommendation from Johnny and Sonia, whom we met in Onslow, we stayed at the Birdwood Station approx. 20 km away from Derby and at the beginning of the notorious Gibb River Road. We only stayed one night but were glad we did because unfortunately Derby did not look very safe nor clean and even the Lady at the Visitor Centre does not like living there. So we only got supplies at Woolies, Petrol at the BP, quick sightseeing the Jetty and driving through the town before spending a quiet night at the beautiful station and mentally preparing for The Gibb, which will feature in Part 5 of our Trip Journal and will probably be quite long because a lot happened…. but we will leave that story for another day ……

🇩🇪 14. Stop – Township of Derby und auf Empfehlung von Johnny und Sonia, die wir in Onslow getroffen haben, blieben wir ca. 20 km von Derby entfernt auf der Birdwood Station und am Beginn der berüchtigten Gibb River Road. Wir blieben nur eine Nacht, waren aber froh, dass wir das gemacht haben, weil Derby leider weder sehr sicher noch sauber aussah und selbst die Dame im Besucherzentrum nicht gerne dort lebt. Also haben wir nur Vorräte bei Woolies besorgt, Benzin bei BP bekommen, schnell den Jetty besichtigt und durch die Stadt gefahren, bevor wir eine ruhige Nacht an der schönen Birdwood Station verbracht haben und uns mental auf Die Gibb vorbereitet haben, welche in Teil 5 unseres Reisetagebuchs erscheinen wird und wahrscheinlich ziemlich lang sein wird, weil viel passiert ist …. aber wir werden diese Geschichte für einen anderen Tag aufheben ……
